The next chapter of the DC Universe follows the origin story of Kara Zor-El aka Supergirl (Milly Alcock), who had a darker journey from Krypton to Earth than her cousin Kal-El. Surviving on a protected chunk of Krypton, Kara has a more traumatic childhood and is drowning sorrows in drink when circumstances force her to shape up and fulfill her inevitable destiny.
It was mostly filmed at the famous Warner Bros Studios Leavesden in Hertfordshire, about 20 miles north-west of London.
The studio began life as Leavesden Aerodrome, a factory and runway where Mosquitoes and Halifax Bombers were manufactured during WWII. Disused in the 1990s, the facility was used as a makeshift studio for the first Pierce Brosnan Bond movie, GoldenEye, in 1994 (the huge ‘St Petersburg’ set was built here to accommodate the tank chase).
The venture proved so successful that Leavesden was rented out to be used for the Harry Potter films and developed as a fully fledged studio, hosting productions including Wonka, Barbie, The Batman (2022), Wonder Woman, and Edge Of Tomorrow. It's now home to the Potter-themed Warner Bros Studio Tour - London.
Kara's interplanetary trailer is parked among the scenic mountains around Glentromie, Kingussie and the Gaick Estate, a privately owned estate and conservation area about within the Cairngorms National Park in the Highlands of Scotland, about 55 miles south of Inverness.
The more rugged volcanic landscapes of 'Barenton' were filmed, as is becoming increasingly popular, in South Iceland and at the black sand of Reynisfjara Beach near the town of Vík í Mýrdal.
